Our History

The Boys Club of Magnolia was founded in 1958. The Club was founded by nine ladies that were members of the Magnolia Junior Charity League. Their goal was to provide behavior guidance and to promote the health, social, educational, vocational, and character development of boys.

The Club began operation in December of 1958, in a private home that was donated to the Club. In 1970, the Club moved to its current facility, a 30,000 sq foot building that sets on 28 acres of land and includes 6 baseball/softball fields, a football, and a soccer field. In 1988, the Club officially became the Boys & Girls Club of Magnolia.

Founders: Lou Weiser, Beth Stewart, Laura Crumpler, Sue Crumpler, Gloria Shanhouse, Mickey Pittman, Janet Brown, Deane Woodward, Lucy Foster

Our Mission

Our mission is to assure and enhance the quality of life for boys and girls, to help them realize their potential, to show them that there are adults that care about their well being and want them to succeed in life, and for them to become valuable citizens of our community.  Your Club serves children of all ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds, but we do pay special attention to those children of disadvantaged circumstance.

We achieve our goals by offering not only athletic programs but a variety of after school programs. These programs include homework hour and tutoring, arts & crafts, photography, computer tech, employability, large and small group activities, and SMART MOVES (a drug, alcohol, and tobacco education program.) We have a grade reward program that recognizes member accomplishments in school and a Youth of the Year Program that recognizes outstanding accomplishments of our members.

Club facts

The Boys and Girls Club serves more than 2000 children annually.   The Club provides free after-school meals to any child in attendance which totals up to over 10,000 meals annually.

Children are mentored through life-changing programs such as: STEM programming, homework assistance, mentoring, tutoring, arts/crafts, literacy, “Career Launch, “SMART MOVE” (anti drug, alcohol, tobacco program) and athletic programs.

Programs are designed with three outcomes in mind: Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship Skills, and Healthy Lifestyles.

OUR PARTNERS

Magnolia Junior Charity League

The Magnolia Junior Charity League has had a longstanding partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Magnolia. In 1958 the members of MJCL founded the Boys Club of Magnolia with the purpose of providing an organization to promote the health, social, educational, and character development of the boys in our community. MJCL played an integral role in establishing the Boys & Girls Club and we continue our support today by volunteering our time at the club in various activities and through financial donations. The impact the Boys & Girls club has on the youth in our community is significant and we are proud to be a part.
